Audemars Piguet is celebrating the milestone in grand style with eight teams decked out in the colours of the Manufacture. Serving as Official Timekeeper of the Tour Auto for the sixth year running, Audemars Piguet is also launching a new 150-piece limited numbered series: the Millenary Tour Auto 2011 Chronograph, a new timepiece added to the five previous editions.
Audemars Piguet enjoys well-established ties with the automobile world. It has been partnering of the Tour Auto for many years and the Audemars Piguet Gstaad Classic in Switzerland since 2009, while its circle of ambassadors includes several drivers such as Jarno Trulli, Sébastien Buemi and more recently Michael Schumacher.
Six years, six watches: after previous models from the Jules Audemars, Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore collections, the Manufacture Audemars Piguet proudly presents its new Millenary Tour Auto 2011 created to celebrate the latest edition of the race. This year’s model offers an even deeper immersion into the automobile world, along with a distinctly retro touch reflecting the vintage spirit of the race.
This new timepiece equipped with an extremely reliable chronograph movement has a 40-hour power reserve and a balance beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour. Its black dial is circled by a flange with a tachometric scale and features silver-toned hour, minute and seconds counters. The openworked dial area echoes a classic automobile theme, with circular-grained surfaces reminiscent of the finish on certain historical cars.
Representing the first generation of Millenary watches to be fitted with a steel case, this model is stamped on the caseback – like its predecessors – with the Tour Auto logo and bears the inscription “Millenary – Série Limitée”. Finally, the Millenary Tour Auto 2011 is fitted with a hand-sewn black leather strap with lozenge-pattern stitching and is delivered in a dedicated presentation box.
The Audemars Piguet Racing Team back on French roads! This year, eight teams competing in the regularity competition are representing the Swiss watch manufacturer and its exceptional timepieces. Friends of the brand, along with numerous devotees of fine automobile and watch mechanisms, will enjoy the pleasure of joining the AP Team in driving along French roads. Among the cars taking part, the Porsche 356, Alpine A110 and the Jaguar MK1 are expected to turn in noteworthy performances.
Like every year, the various technical and administrative checks will be conducted in the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris on April 11th. The event will then officially start the next day on the legendary Le Mans track for a first leg that will take competitors to Poitiers by early evening. The second stage will feature the world-famous Vigeant track and end with an overnight stay in Objat. From Bordeaux participants will visit the legendary Nogaro track, before rounding off the 2011 edition with stops in the legendary motor sports city of Pau and finally Biarritz. Audemars Piguet wishes the AP Racing Team and all other competitors an excellent rally!
