Nomos Wins Award for Zurich Datum
Red Dot Award for the Zürich Datum
It has just been announced that this NOMOS watch has received the red dot award: product design 2010. The red dot award is an international competition that has existed since 1955 and whose prize, the “red dot,” is a highly esteemed stamp of quality. Receiving more than 11,000 submissions from over 60 countries, the red dot is one of the biggest design competitions worldwide. The award ceremony will take place in July.
This is not the first award for the NOMOS automatic watch, which was designed in Zurich by Hannes Wettstein (but constructed in Glashütte, of course). The Zürich model first hit the market in November 2009 and it barely had time to establish itself before winning the Austrian Chrono Award for 2009, and shortly after that placing third in the category “classic elegance” in the voting for “Watch of the Year.”
In so doing, the Zürich model is not only striving for the fame of its namesake city, but that of other NOMOS watches as well, such as Tangomat Datum, which also in 2009, for the third year in a row, landed within the top three places in the readers’ poll for “Goldene Unruh” (Golden balance wheel). And, of course, this model has also been awarded the “red dot” in the past – in fact, NOMOS has received a total of five “red dots” to date. Good form is a primary concern at NOMOS Glashütte.
The Zürich Datum sells for 2,800 euros, while its counterpart without date display is available in stores for 2,400 euros.
